I am a graduate of Red Mountain Institute in Birmingham, Alabama with certification in Clinical Massage Therapy and Neuromuscular Therapy with an emphasis in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular and Hydrotherapy.I have been practicing massage therapy for ten (10) years.
I am a licensed massage therapist for the State of Alabama. I am a professional member of ABMP and a member of the Vestavia Chamber of Commerce. As part of my profession, I adhere strictly to the code of ethics set out by ABMP and the State of Alabama Massage Therapy Board.
Currently, I serve as a volunteer on the Alabama Board of Massage Therapy. The opportunity to represent massage therapists in Alabama since 2002 has been a very rewarding experience.
Over the years I have obtained additional training and certification in various bodywork modalities to aid in the recovery and overall health of the clients in my practice.
In 2001 I completed the Orthopedic Assessment Certification offered by Whitney Lowe of Omeri. I have utilized the concepts and techniques to benefit the clients in my practice with job-related and sports related injuries.
In 2001 I completed the British Sports Massage Training offered by Stuart Taws. I utilize the concepts and techniques to benefit clients in my practice with sports-related injuries.
In 2006 I completed, the Active Isolated Stretching training taught by Aaron Mattes. I utilize the concepts and techniques to benefit clients in my practice with limited range of motion and flexibility due to sports related and job-related injuries.
In addition to practicing massage therapy, for the past fifteen years, I was a licensed certifed social worker providing counseling and various supportive services to enhance client’s overall health and day to day functioning.The profession of social work and massage therapy share a common belief that “everyone deserves to feel a sense of well-being in body, mind, and spirit.”
The following services are offered to each individual client based upon their specific needs:
Chair Massage: Fully clothed seated massage including various modalities to aid in pain relief, usually done at business meetings, cooperate settings, and personal gatherings.
Deep Tissue: techniques used to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia; helps chronic muscle pain and injury rehabilitation.
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT): specific techniques to relieve muscle spasms, eliminate trigger points that cause referred pain, and rebuild strength of injured tissues
Orthopedic Assessment:a comprehensive approach integrating a variety of massage’s most effective techniques in the treatment of soft tissue dysfunction, pain and injuries. Four component of orthopedic massage: orthopedic assessment, matching the physiology of the tissue injury with physiological effects of treatment, treatment adaptability, and understanding the rehabilitation protocol.
Pregnancy Massage: general relaxation massage designed to minimize and alleviate pain and stress related to pregnancy
Swedish massage: for general relaxation, techniques that energize, and stimulate circulation, thereby, enhancing ones overall sense of well being.
Sports Massage: specific techniques designed to increase range of motion and flexibility, alleviate inflammation, and reduce injuries for the every day, amateur, and professional athlete.
Stretching and Joint Mobilization: Specific stretches designed to increase flexibility and range of motion of muscles and joints.
